THE BASICS
Bridge is a trick-taking card game for 4 players in two partnerships: North-South vs East-West. You play as South; North is your partner.
DEALING
All 52 cards are dealt evenly — 13 cards per player. The dealer rotates each hand.
BIDDING
Players bid for a contract: a number of tricks (above 6) in a trump suit or No Trump. Bidding goes clockwise. You can Pass, bid higher, Double an opponent's bid, or Redouble.
Suit rank: ♣ ♦ ♥ ♠ NT (lowest to highest)
Bidding ends after 3 consecutive passes.
PLAY
The player who first named the final trump suit becomes Declarer. Declarer's partner becomes Dummy and lays their cards face up. The player to Declarer's left leads the first trick.
You must follow the suit led if you can. If you can't, you may play any card (including trump). The highest trump wins, or if no trump was played, the highest card of the led suit wins.
SCORING
If declarer makes their contract (wins enough tricks), they score points. If they fail, the defenders score penalty points. Bonuses for slams (12 or 13 tricks bid and made).
